The Israel Navy is
the navy of the Israel Defense Forces protecting the State of Israel
operating primarily on its west coast border in the Mediterranean Sea
and to its south in the Gulf of Aqaba with its connections to the Red
Sea and the nearby Gulf of Suez.

The Eilat base was founded in 1951 and has been in charge of the Red Sea
Naval zone of the Israeli navy since 1981, when the Red Sea Naval
command center was withdrawn from Sharem A- Shech according to the
Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty.
